Get ready for the ultimate showdown between two of the most sought-after prefilled pod kits on our shelves as we put the SKE Crystal Plus and Elfa PRO to the test to see which device comes out on top!

SKE was among the first disposable vape brands to enter the prefilled pod kit space— taking the sleek shape and style of their Crystal Bar disposables and making them available in a reusable format. But a lot has changed in the past year, as more and more brands are stepping up the plate and releasing new pod kits of their own.

Enter Elf Bar— the iconic brand that sparked a worldwide phenomenon with the release of its flagship pen-style disposable vape. Much like SKE, Elf Bar was early on the scene of pod kits, with the release of the Elf Bar Mate 500 and Elfa devices back in 2022. But now, they’re back yet again with a new prefilled pod kit to rival its competitors.

But does the new Elfa PRO have what it takes to outshine the Crystal Plus? Well, that’s what I’m here to find out. In this review, I’ll be testing both devices side by side and providing an in-depth comparison of how they work, their performance, design and flavours to help you decide which of these pod kits could be your secret weapon to a smoke-free lifestyle. So, let’s dive right in!

SKE Crystal Plus Features

SKE Crystal Plus

  • Puff Count: 600
  • Battery Size: 400mAh
  • Coil Type: Mesh
  • E-Liquid Capacity: 2ml

Features Comparison

As both the SKE Crystal Plus and Elfa PRO are prefilled pod kits, I wasn’t expecting huge differences when it comes down to the basics— and I was right. Both devices are compatible with their range of prefilled pods; the SKE pod kit uses Crystal Plus Pods whereas the Elfa PRO is compatible with both Elfa and Elfa PRO pods.

My Elfa PRO pod kit also came with a prefilled pod already installed, which was a huge plus. But if you plan on purchasing the SKE Crystal, it’s worth remembering to pick up a pack of pods too as this kit doesn’t include any. The pods themselves are pretty similar; both brands have opted for a 2ml capacity and I found that each pod could easily last for an entire day of vaping, sometimes more!

The real differences lie in the build of the pods themselves. If you haven’t already heard, QUAQ mesh coil technology is really popping off right now, and Elf Bar seems to be at the forefront of this movement. Unlike SKE pods, these Elfa vape pods are fitted with a QUAQ mesh coil that’s designed to enhance the flavour of e-liquid inside and promote coil longevity. While I certainly noticed that the vaping experience of the Elfa PRO is far smoother than that of the original Elfa, the difference was negligible when comparing it to that of the Crystal Plus.

Surprisingly, when trying out these devices side by side, the vape sensation really wasn’t that dissimilar. The SKE Crystal has always provided that light and airy inhale that the QUAQ coil provides, even without having one, so there really wasn’t much of a difference. Both pod kits were incredibly satisfying to use, hitting that sweet-spot MTL feel that I love, making it difficult to choose a favourite in terms of key features.

Nevertheless, the larger battery found inside the Elfa PRO did prove fruitful, as it required noticeably fewer recharges than my Crystal Plus. And as a vaper on the go, that’s a huge win in my book for Elf Bar.

Now, let’s move on to the design.

Now, let’s move on to the design.

SKE Crystal Plus Ergonomics & Design

SKE Crystal Plus

  • Crystallised transparent exterior
  • Size: 8.8 x 1.7cm
  • Duckbill mouthpiece
  • Rectangular, pen-style shape
  • Transparent pods
  • Magnetic connection

Ergonomics & Design Comparison

When looking at the design of these prefilled pod kits side by side, the differences become glaringly obvious. While both devices are slim and pen-style, it’s clear to see that the brands have gone in totally different directions when it comes to aesthetics.

The SKE Crystal features a colourful metallic inner tube that’s coated in a crystallised transparent exterior, giving it a jewel-like look that’s undeniably eye-catching. I’m a huge fan of the Crystal Plus design and like how it follows suit of Crystal Bar disposables. Plus, the whole device glows a magnificent blue upon inhale, which is really quite captivating.

On the other hand, Elf Bar has opted to keep things more basic. Staying well away from a flashy finish, the Elfa PRO boasts the same dimensions and rubberised matte exterior as Elf Bar disposables, complete with a new ombre colour palette. While I don’t particularly dislike the design of the Elfa vape kit, it’s certainly nothing to get excited about.

The compatible prefilled pods of both devices feature a duckbill mouthpiece, both of which I found to be comfortable and appropriately sized. However, I must admit that when it comes down to the pods, I prefer those of the Crystal Plus. Although both pod designs allow you to keep an eye on your e-liquid levels, Crystal Plus pods feature a totally transparent design that makes it effortless, whereas I find myself having to hold my Elfa pods up to a light source to see through its dark shell.

Moving on from the exterior, let’s take a look at the different flavours up for grabs.

Moving on from the exterior, let’s take a look at the different flavours up for grabs.

Flavour Comparison

Now it’s time to talk about perhaps the most important aspect of any prefilled pod kit— the flavours. For me, the flavour selection of prefilled pods can make or break a pod kit, as I know from experience that you need to love the taste of the pods you’re using in order to stick to your quit smoking goals.

So, I was glad to learn that the Elfa PRO is available in a whopping 30 different blends. That’s right, 30! With plenty of iconic Elf Bar flavours to choose from, I was truly spoilt for choice. Plus, I had the added bonus of choosing from original Elfa flavours too, as those pods are also compatible in the new Elf Bar. If your wanting to deep dive into finding what a perfect flavour is for you then head over to our Elf Bar Elfa full Flavour Guide.

When it comes to SKE Crystal flavours, there’s no denying that they don’t come close to the same variety offered by Elf Bar. With 15 SKE flavours to choose from, there’s enough to choose from to keep it fresh, but when compared to Elfa pods, their choices are lacking. However if you want to hit the ground runnign with the perfect pod then head over to our SKE Crystal Plus Pods Flavour Guide.

Nevertheless, I can’t stress enough just how great SKE flavours taste. I’m a die-hard fan of their Watermelon Ice and Strawberry Burst blends as they’re just so potent. It’s clear to see that SKE aren’t lacking in skill when it comes to flavour creation, I just wish they’d offer up more choice by introducing a few new blends.

With that in mind, let’s turn our heads to the other products these brands have to offer.

SKE Vs Elf Bar Pod Kit Ranges

SKE Vs Elf Bar Pod Kit Ranges

As Elf Bar was one of the first vape brands to attain global success, it should come as no surprise to learn that they have more than one prefilled pod kit up their sleeve. The Elfa PRO is the follow-up to their original Elf Bar device, which is essentially exactly the same but with the addition of QUAQ mesh coils inside their pods. If you want to find out more about how the Elfa PRO differs from the original Elfa pod kit, check out my comparison blog: Elf Bar Elfa Vs Elf Bar Elfa PRO.

But even before Elfa hit the scene, Elf Bar was already making waves in the realm of pod kits with their Elf Bar Mate 500 device. This pod kit is a little chunkier than the Elfa and sports a different style to their classic, cylindrical shape, but it was a huge hit nonetheless. I recently tried out the Elf Bar Mate for myself and loved that they also created refillable pods for it, allowing me to top it up with any e-liquid I liked.

When it comes to SKE, the Crystal Plus is the only pod kit they’ve released to date. But given the success of the Crystal Bar Plus, I wouldn’t be surprised if they hit the shelves yet again in the near future with a new addition to their lineup.

SKE Crystal Plus Vs Elf Bar Elfa PRO Market Comparison

SKE Crystal Plus Vs Elf Bar Elfa PRO Market Comparison

To gain a deeper understanding of how these two pod kits perform, it’s a good idea to put them into perspective and assess how they perform against the current pod vape kit market as a whole, especially as so many brands are releasing their own prefilled pod kits at the moment.

One such pod kit is the Tappo, from industry giants, Lost Mary. The Lost Mary Tappo was only released just a couple of weeks ago, but it’s already causing quite a stir among the vaping community. Fans of their compact and matchbox-shaped disposable vapes can now enjoy the same portability and quality in a reusable device. Plus, it’s fully compatible with Elfa PRO pods! The Tappo seems to be the only prefilled pod kit of this style at the moment, serving as a worthy opponent to more pen-style kits such as the Elfa and Crystal Plus. I recently tried out the Tappo for myself, so head over to my Lost Mary Tappo Review to find out what I thought of it.

Another brand soon to be entering the realm of pod kits is FUYL. This brand only hit our shelves for the first time last year, with its popular line of FUYL disposables, but they show no sign of slowing down. Although the FUYL prefilled pod kit hasn’t dropped just yet, I’m looking forward to giving it a whirl when it does and finding out if it has what it takes to rival the likes of SKE Crystal and Elfa.

Now, it’s time for my verdict!

SKE Crystal Plus Vs Elf Bar Elfa PRO Verdict

SKE Crystal Plus Vs Elf Bar Elfa PRO Verdict

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the SKE Crystal Plus pod kit, and I’ve been using it religiously since the day I got my hands on it. For a long time, I felt that there was absolutely no way another prefilled pod kit could have what it takes to win me over— until now.

I wasn’t expecting big things from the new Elfa PRO, especially as I wasn’t overly impressed by the original Elfa device. But I have to say, I really enjoyed it! While I’m not so keen on its unoriginal design, the overall vaping experience was essentially perfect thanks to the QUAQ mesh coil, delivering that smooth and effortlessly light vape sensation that I crave, much like the one that’s provided by the Crystal Plus.

While these two pod kits share much in common, the increased battery capacity of the Elfa PRO made a huge difference. Now, if I expect to be away from home for the entire day, I’ll probably pick up my Elfa PRO in place of my SKE Crystal to guarantee that I won’t lose power while on the go.

But there’s no denying that the Crystal Plus just looks better. If you’ve never been much of a fan of Elf Bar disposables or their style, I highly recommend giving the SKE Crystal a go, as in my opinion, it’s one of the most attractive pod kits out there.

If you’re struggling to choose between these two pod kits, there’s one key aspect I think you need to take into consideration— the flavours. If you’re the kind of vaper who’s always chopping and changing by trying out new blends, never sticking to just one flavour for long, I can’t recommend the Elfa PRO enough. Not only do you have 30 Elfa PRO pod flavours to choose from, but you also have access to original Elfa and new Lost Mary Tappo flavours too!

Although there’s not a huge range of SKE pod flavours available, the blends they do have are undeniably potent. And after almost a year of using my SKE Crystal, it’s still going strong and hasn’t failed me yet! So, regardless of which pod kit you choose, you’re going to have a great experience no matter what.
